I'm looking at all the 3 reviews and so far, no one has stumbled onto my major gripe with the story. I didn't notice much editing errors (maybe because I've read it NOW and not when the Kindle Edition first came out so they've fixed it already? IDK) My biggest problem is the fact that the author tells what should be naturally discovered. I see it as lazy storytelling. I was disappointed because the series had so much potential. I know it's only a fun quick read, no deepness or anything... But when you're paying almost 5 bucks for a book, one should expect some character development. Some real growth. Don't tell me they fall in love, I should be able to see that for myself. I also hate it when no one has to work for anything. Love is easy in these books because they're 'Mated'. There's no work, no true getting to know each other, no concessions, no development.. No nothing!! Just when I wanted to slam the book shut and stop reading, something funny would happen to save it for me. I'm intrigued in the story despite my distaste of lazy live stories in which no one has to really work. It's all about fate, destiny, mates, "For some reason, I just knew... " A little chemistry is good, even great. Magic and destiny with love is a part of the potion, but what separates an OK author like this from the greats like Kresley Cole, is the fact that she knows how to combine all the ingredients. Her characters also have to WORK for their love. They actually have to get to know each other. Make concessions. It's not all "fate". One last gripe - These women are a little too blasé about leaving their entire culture, life and everything behind. TOO accepting of EVERYTHING. Like I said, I know it's supposed to be a light read, but c'mon!! Everything's a little too convenient for me. No character had any real depth. Just when I thought the author when dive into and bring out some emotional angst, she would just tell me what is happening in their head and hearts and move on... So frustrating and disappointing. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Jim Butchers and Kresley Coles of the world.. Maybe it's early in the series and her writing progresses... I'm going to read one more book and make my decision. I complained a lot but the story was not All bad. Loved the symbiot, loved Cara's quirkiness loved the basic concept. It just could've been so much better!!

This was a really good story. I really liked Cara and Trelon and thoroughly enjoyed their story. This is part of the series but TBH, it feel like enough of a story on it's own that I think it could be read out of order with hardly any difficulty.

Cara is a rather hyper but greatly gifted woman. She's extremely intelligent and is gifted at mechanics, figuring things out and getting out of places she doesn't want to be. As a kid, she lost both of her parents and her uncle took guardianship over her. Cara has been hyper and extremely curious all her life so her uncle couldn't handle her and ended up sending her to a boarding school for gifted children. Unfortunately, Car didn't have much happiness there either.

Trelon is a dragon shifter from an alien planet. His brother, Zoran, is the King of their people (in addition to being the hero from book #1). Trelon works helping his brothers run the kingdom (their planet) and is mechanically inclined. His dragon wants a mate and he hasn't found his true mate so he's considered taking a woman he knows as his mate even though his dragon barely tolerates her.

Zonran was kidnapped by enemies and he escaped but ended up injured on a primitive planet (Earth) where Trelon and his other brothers had to travel to to pick him up. When they get there, it's to find someone kidnapping Abby (Zoran's human mate) and in the process of rescuing her, the brothers reveal themselves to a handful of human woman that Abby was travelling with. The brothers decide that the woman have seen too much and need to be taken back to their planet with them. Cara is among the women kidnapped by the Valdier warriors and actually thought the whole thing was kind of cool. She never fit in well on Earth anyways and there's all sorts of new gadgets for her to take apart on the spaceship...

Trelon knows right away that Cara is his...he can't keep his eyes off of her and goes nuts when another Valdier tries to touch her. His symbiosis migrates completely over to her, abandoning him, and he can't seem to keep track of her because every time he turns around, she's gone again. Cara feels the attraction for Trelon but avoids it at first as she's never had much luck with love...most guys couldn't stand being around her long enough for a first date. Cara had even swore off love but I think that was mostly a defense mechanism that enabled her not to be hurt by men that couldn't accept her for herself because she would never fall for them anyways. Trelon does manage to get past her barrier but staying there isn't easy, especially when the woman he would have mated if not for Cara shows up and causes some trouble. There's some drama and danger for both Trelon and Cara but they get through things relatively unscathed and end the story starting a well deserved HEA together.

This was a really enjoyable story. Cara was a great heroine, I found her to be very endearing. TBH, I don't blame Trelon for being frustrated with Cara...she had no concept of discretion when tearing things apart and experimenting with stuff. Still, outside of that, I really liked Cara and would have loved to hang out with her (if she existed in RL I mean). Trelon was a good hero even if it took him a little bit to understand how to deal with Cara. Also, he had his grumpy moments but with Cara's antics, he wasn't exactly getting a lot of sleep and I could sympathize (LMAO). Overall, I liked the characters a lot and thought the story itself was really good and did well at keeping me interested through the end. I'd recommend this story. )

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a very good job.
When I saw this release, I didn't even bother with downloading the sample. I had read the previous one in the series, "Abducting Abby" where there were glimpses of Cara's character and so I knew this one would be great.

I have read every one of the author's books and with the exception of the cowboy one (which was okay but not great), they were all 4 1/2 stars at a minimum. It's not just that the leads are someone you can respect or want to imagine yourself as being, but as in the case of Cara (and Tink from "Tink's Neverland"), the women have these interesting personalities. In the case of Cara, she has this ADHD/genius type personality that is a hoot and keeps the hero on his toes. And for once, the woman tires the man out!

I really do recommend reading "Abducting Abby" first so that this book makes more sense. I can see that the author has others to contribute to this series (Trish, Ariel, and Carmen's stories obviously need to be told) and I look forward to reading them. I will be interested in seeing how Trish and Ariel will be made to seem different as their personalities seem so alike.

I am soooo glad that I stumbled across this author. S.E. Smith, along with Kaitlyn O'Connor, Angela Castle, Laurann Dohner, and Madelaine Montague are among my consistent fav es. Actually, I have to say S.E. Smith is the most consistent in bringing imaginative world building and fantastic, powerful, interesting female leads.
